Among these available LED displays, SMD(Surface Mounted Device) is widely applied both for indoor and outdoor LED screens.

SMD, shout for Surface Mounted Device, is a standard workmanship of machining and technics, for constructing electronic circuits in which chips of LED lamps are mounted directly onto the surface of printed circuit boards. This is easily done for indoor LED display, while we have succeeded in using it for outdoor LED screens since the beginning of the year 2007, when seldom China suppliers began to adopt it.

Each SMD pixel consists of 1 red, 1 green, and 1 blue diode, which has been mounted on one chip set, then mounted on the driver PC board. The diodes are very small and are set quite closely with each other. While this kind of SMD workmanship makes difference:
1. more dense pixel pitches are achieved;
2. the maximum viewing distance is reduced by 25% than common full color LED display;
3. The display solution is greatly decreased for the same image with the same size as before.
